ESSENTIAL SKILLS FACILITATOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Essential Skills Facilitator will facilitate a 12 week skills development program to 12 participants at our Sliammon Nation (Powell River) location. The STEP Stones to Employment program provides employable income assistance clients with job specific training using the nine essential skills (Reading Text, Document Use, Numeracy, Writing, Computer Use, Working with Others, Oral Communication, Thinking skills, and Continuous Learning).
This 18 week program uses authentic workplace documents and embeds essential skills to customize training related to an industry’s work environment. Employment resources include: resume development, cover letter development, references, cold calls, networking, interview skills, calling card development and essential skill enhancement related to their job target. Other supports include: employment maintenance certificates and a driver’s license.
During the program, clients can access support programs and job search/skill development opportunities through assisted Internet access, faxing, free phone, online resources, group workshops, community announcements/postings board and referrals to agencies that meet the specific needs of the individual.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Deliver a 12 week skills development program to 12 participants
• Invigilate Essential Skills assessments and Employment Readiness Scale assessments
• Facilitate Essential Skills Portfolio and PLATO Learning software with participants
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Strong administration and organizational skills
• Other duties as assigned

• Be a team player and have a positive attitude
ELIGIBILITY:
• Facilitation experience
• Post-Secondary education in Career Development
• 2 years experience working in employment services
• Combination of education and experience
Desired:
Priority will be given to First Nations applicants
TERM:
12 week contract with possibility of renewal
