The Aboriginal Apprenticeship Initiative is designed to maximize training and job opportunities around the lower mainland. The initiative will develop partnerships and tools that will facilitate, enhance and support the recruitment, retention and advancement of First Nations people in the skilled trades.

 

The project goal is to provide literacy and essential skills best practices to 500 apprentices, including Aboriginal women in trades over 2 years and to develop a provincial system for tracking and support for Aboriginal apprenticeships. The project will adopt best practices from other jurisdictions: Nova Scotia and Alberta where support is provided to Apprentices. The project is unique in that the focus is on Aboriginal people in the workplace.
